If you’d like your existing hair to be as thick, full, and healthy as possible, understanding its natural growth cycle could help you maximize its potential. Knowing how and when hair growth occurs may enable you to extend its growth period and to prevent some common hair loss issues.

Stress is a natural human response to challenging situations. A little stress may even be a good thing… acting as a powerful motivator that improves performance, increases alertness, and enhances memory function.
Unfortunately, humans aren’t built for the sheer amount of stress we encounter in our daily lives. Our careers, relationships, finances, health, and even world events beyond our control cause excessive emotional or physical stress that takes a toll on every part of our bodies, including our hair and scalp. Stress is one of the top causes of hair loss – wreaking havoc on hair’s growth cycle, sparking hair-damaging immune issues, and causing destructive behaviors that harm our hair and scalp.
[Read more…]What Is DHT?
Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is a hormone that plays a role in male and female pattern hair loss (also known as androgenic alopecia). DHT is a byproduct of testosterone that binds to hair follicles – causing them to shrink and produce fewer, thinner hairs. In men, it can lead to male pattern hair loss with its distinctive receding M-shaped hairline and in women it causes overall hair thinning.
[Read more…]Testosterone’s Effect on Hair Loss
When it comes to hair loss, testosterone takes a lot of undeserved blame. The relationship between high or low testosterone and thinning, receding hair is more complex and less direct than many people assume.
[Read more…]Are Hair Loss Shampoos Effective?
Could something as simple and ordinary as shampoo slow down or reverse hair loss? Or is your shampoo actually contributing to your hair loss?
The relationship between shampoo and hair loss is complex. So much depends on your shampoo’s ingredients, the product’s effect on your hair and scalp, and the underlying cause of your hair loss.

Your overall health has a profound impact on the health of your hair. Even common illnesses like the flu or simple infections can disrupt your hair’s growth cycle, resulting in excess shedding or slow regrowth.
Serious (or potentially serious) illnesses like cancer or COVID-19 can cause significant hair loss, and chronic illnesses – especially autoimmune diseases – can wreak havoc on your hair and scalp. Autoimmune illnesses can cause chronic telogen effluvium or lead to permanent baldness.

There are many myths and misunderstandings about hair transplants. These often are based on an outdated understanding of how transplants are performed and on whom… as well as how the results will look. Let’s dispel some of these misconceptions and look at the reality of today’s procedures.
Some Common Hair Restoration Myths Are:
- Hair transplants look obvious.
- Only men can have hair transplants.
- Older patients cannot have hair transplants.
- Hair transplants are painful.
- Only rich people can afford hair transplants.
What They Don’t Tell You About Hair Transplants
Today’s hair transplants look incredibly natural. The days of obvious or patchy hair plugs are long gone. They’ve been replaced by FUT and FUE procedures that harvest and place carefully chosen individual or small groups of follicles, often with the assistance of robotics and AI algorithms.
While most hair replacement procedures are performed on men, there are options available for all genders. We work with CIS men and women, as well as non-binary and trans individuals, to help achieve the hairline they desire. While we rarely recommend transplantation for people younger than 21; there is no upper age limit, as long as the patient has viable donor hair and is healthy enough to undergo the procedure.
Another myth is that these procedures are painful and expensive, but that’s not the case. Today’s transplant procedures involve minimal discomfort and are performed under a local anesthetic. We strive to make your hair replacement experience comfortable and stress-free. So, if you experience any discomfort during your healing process, we will suggest or provide medications to alleviate any itching, tenderness, or scalp tightness that may occur.
As for cost, procedures are available at a wide variety of price points. We will happily work with you to find the best solution for your budget.
Is Hair Restoration Possible?
Hair restoration is possible for many, if not most, individuals who have a healthy scalp and adequate donor hair. That said, anyone with a serious and/or chronic health condition should consult their physician to ensure they are healthy enough to undergo a hair replacement procedure.
Does Hair Restoration Last Forever?
Because donor hair is taken from areas of your scalp or body that aren’t predisposed to hair loss, restored hair typically is permanent. While future issues due to illnesses, chemo treatments, or medications are possible… transplanted hair does not have the same susceptibility to hormonal hair loss that one’s previously lost hair had.
Does Hair Restoration Look Natural?
One of the most pernicious and persistent myths about hair transplants is that they look “fake.” This belief is based on outdated ideas from decades ago, when hair replacement procedures were much less sophisticated than they are now.
The science and artistry of today’s hair transplants allow for precise, strategic placement of small groups of follicles. That allows them to blend seamlessly with existing hair instead of standing out in conspicuous clumps as in the past.

Male Psychology & Hair Loss
At first glance, a connection between one’s mental health and their hair health (or volume) might seem odd. However, the mind-body connection is a powerful one, and the link between a man’s physical and mental health even extends to the health of his hair.
[Read more…]What is Androgenic Alopecia?
By far, androgenic alopecia is the number one reason our clients undergo hair replacement procedures. Nationwide more than 80 percent of hair transplants are performed to reverse the effects of this type of hair loss.
Androgenic alopecia is also referred to as male pattern baldness (MPB) or female pattern hair loss. It is caused by a group of genetic factors linked to heightened sensitivity to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) – a testosterone byproduct. DHT causes hair follicles to constrict, which produces thin hairs that fall out more easily. This condition progresses as one ages and one’s hormone levels fluctuate.

To address hair loss, it’s crucial to determine what is causing it. Some forms of hair loss are reversible, and some are not. Luckily, nearly all can be treated with some combination of lifestyle changes, medications, or surgery.
